Transition to High School

Welcome to New Students of Sprowston Community High School

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

We are delighted that so many new children will be joining us from September 2011 and we would like to take this opportunity of sincerely welcoming you as a family.

The next 5 academic years will be a major chapter in the life of your child and we are absolutely committed to making this period as special and purposeful as possible, maximising, where we can, the well being and life chances of all the young people within our care.

Who's Who at Sprowston Community High School

To help all new Year 7 students and their parents and carers we have put together a short leaflet showing you the key people in the school you may need to contact. Every family will be issued with a printed version, these will be available at the Parents Information Evening on Wednesday 4 July 2012.

On receiving information that your son/daughter will be joining Year 7 at Sprowston Community High School, we sent you a welcome pack which included an Admissions Form and a Form asking which language your son/daughter might prefer to study. You may also have received a pack through via child's junior school.  If you have not received a welcome pack, please accept my apologies and contact the school office on 01603 485266 so that this situation can be rectified without delay.  We have begun the process of arranging groupings for next year and would be pleased to have this information returned as soon as possible.

The Journey Starts Here

The journey we take with your child begins now. There is much that we can do now to prepare the way, both practically and emotionally, so that your child will find the transition from Junior School to High School as exciting and stress free as possible. This page will outline some of the opportunities that we offer you as a family and we hope that you will also feel able to contact us if there is anything that worries or concerns you in the forthcoming months.

Opportunities to Meet Us

It is extremely important that we become familiar faces in the life of your child over the next few months and there will be a number of important opportunities for us to meet your children, both within their own school setting, but also when we invite them, and you to join us at Sprowston Community High School. These dates are outlined as follows:-

Meeting the Children

Staff from Sprowston Community High School will be visiting each Junior School from the end of May to meet your child and his/her teacher and to answer any questions about the transition process.

Meeting the Parents

On Wednesday 4 July 2012 there will be an evening meeting which you are invited to attend, here you will have the opportunity to meet some of the key High School staff who will be working with your child. It is also an opportunity to raise any concerns you may have.  Please note, this evening is for parents only.

Session 1 will take place between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm for surnames A – M
Session 2 will take place between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm for surnames N – Z

If you have special educational concerns, our school Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator Chris Davies will also be available.

Please note, that this is also the date when we ask you to return any remaining forms to us and to make the payment for the Eaton Vale Activity Centre Tutor Group trip.
