Movember : Calling all Men (and women for moral support)
It’s Movember, the month formerly known as November, now dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men’s health; specifically prostate and testicular cancer. I and other members of staff are donating our top lip to the cause for 30 days in an effort to help change the face of men’s health. My Mo will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for cancer’s affecting men.
Why am I concerned about men’s health?
- 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- This year 37,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed.
- 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
- 26% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women.
I invite you to join me by registering to grow or by donating to my support of the Mo http://www.movember.com/m/979842
If you want to go old school you can write a cheque payable to “Movember”, reference my name and Registration Number 979842 and send it to: Movember Europe, PO Box 68600, London, EC1P 1EF
Funds raised will help make a tangible difference to the lives of others. Through the Movember Foundation and our men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and The Institute of Cancer Research, Movember is funding world class awareness, research, educational and support programs which would otherwise not be possible.

Employee to take part in Shine Marathon Walk London 2011

Steve Blake
On Saturday 1 October 2011, Steve Blake of our premises department will be taking part in the Cancer Research UK Shine Marathon Walk through London.
Shine London 2011 is set to be the biggest event yet and has been organised by Steve's daughter Victoria, who persuaded Steve and his wife to support this worthwhile cause. Steve has been in training for a number of months to complete the full marathon course of just over 26 miles, starting at the O2 arena at 8.00pm. They will walk through the night along the Thames past sights such as Westminster Abbey and back to the O2.
If you would like to sponsor Steve there will be a sponsorship form available in the staffroom to support Steve in this worthwhile venture.
We wish Steve and his wife the very best of luck.
Thank you!

Kelvin Brown
It gives me great pleasure to pay my 'thanks' for the work of Kelvin Brown. Kelvin took early retirement at Easter after 18 years of loyal service to the school community in our Premises Team.
Kelvin was a dedicated professional who gave of his best throughout his time at the school. He was also a credit to his profession and took great pride in everything that he did. He always wished for our Open Evenings, for example, to be the best in order to convey the message to our community that we care. I shall certainly miss his presence around the school and wish to offer him a 'very happy retirement'.
