It was a pleasure to attend a presentation evening at Carrow Road for 30 Year 7 students who attend “Double Club” on Mondays in school.

Year 7 boys and girls have been working with Jenni Dixon , the tutor for this scheme, to improve their skills in literacy and numeracy as well as their football and team skills. All the tasks have a football theme and students also have the opportunity to work for one day at the football ground, use the Study centre facilities there and meet up with some of the players.

Norwich City also runs the “Playing for Success” scheme which offers opportunities for after school work in the Study Centre. Last term, another group of Year 7 students benefited from small group work to develop basic skills and become much more confident young people which we witnessed when they talked about their work to groups of parents and tutors.

We are also aiming for some Year 9 students to become involved in the “Playing for Success” scheme at North Walsham Rugby Club.

These schemes offer another approach to learning which has had a really positive effect on those lucky enough to take part and parents have been delighted with the positive outcomes. Thanks are due to the Study Centre team at Carrow Road for their enthusiasm and interest in Sprowston students.
