Can you help us raise money for the school? As parents and carers of students at Sprowston Community High School you are automatically a member of the Sprowston Community High School Association (SCHSA).

The SCHSA is our Parent and Teachers Association and draws together present and past parents, teaching and support staff, as well as governors and other friends of the school.

We are extremely keen to extend our numbers and look forward to welcoming new members to our committee as well as hearing any new fund raising ideas you may have.

If you would like to be involved and offer support, we hold meetings every half term. Please see the ‘Future Events’ section for the dates of our meetings.

We hope you will join us:

  • At Table Top Sales and Quiz Evenings when we have fun and get to know each other
  • At school events and intake evenings, when we provide refreshments and conversation
  • At our half termly (and short) open committee meetings (to which all are welcome) where we plan future events and discuss new fundraising ideas, allocate money to school projects and keep up to date with developments in the school.
  • At fund raising events - at present our major income comes from the School Shop which is manned voluntarily by the School Association.

In the recent past, SCHSA has supported individual students on special projects and has helped by subsidising groups of students on trips and visits. We have provided financial support for the creation of seating areas in school and have financed a new sound system. In fact the School Association was a major sponsor of the Specialist School Status bid. For example, the Music Department and its students benefited from the purchase of a new piano (and the Association has recently allocated a further £1,100 to purchase a second) as well as paying for the repairs to some musical instruments.

We helped to fund the Nick Reeve Memorial Garden, which provides a quiet area for contemplation for the students, and we also provided some equipment for lunchtime and after school clubs. In the past two years we have provided in the region of £15,000 for items such as furniture, equipment for the allotments, an interactive whiteboard, software, magazines for the library, computers, cameras, art materials and other items for several departments within the school.

This is vital work - and it's fun too! Most importantly, it keeps parents and teachers in touch in a relaxed setting. We look forward to seeing you at our meetings and events. You can always contact Andy Bennett, the Chair of the School Association, through the school.
