Year 9 Students Get to Grips with Economics!
Wednesday, 02 February 2011 12:23
During the Y9 preference evening Y9 students and their parents were asked to take part in a competition asking them to make comment on a wide range of topical economic dates.
We were astounded by the quality of the thinking and writing of many students and parents and it was very diffcult to pick a winner. In particular, Adam Dyson, Charlotte Risebrough and Mrs Edwards all gave fantastic answers that would not disgrace a GCSE paper now. There were many other great responses showing the quality of rational, logical independent thinking that our students are clearly capable of.

Maya Hunneyball
However, the winner was picked because of her use of key terms, sharp thinking and ability to examine how variables affect each other, CONGRATULATIONS to Maya Hunneyball I hope you spend your £10 wisely and have fun choosing how to allocate your scarce resources!
Maya's comments were around the continued economic success of McDonalds:"Fast food is in continual demand from consumers. McDonalds is one of the main producers in this market. Fast food is relatively cheap and easy to access and as a result of that we have a rising problem with obesity and consumers developing unhealthy tastes and appetites. McDonalds also use a lot of economic resources such as cutting down forests for cattle. This has a cost on the environment"
Pretty impressive thinking for someone who has not yet started Economics!
Well Done.
