Spelling Bee Final!

Friday, 18 May 2012 11:13

On Tuesday 22 May we will be having the Spelling Bee Play off in Assembly!

The competition has been going on for the last 6 weeks and students have been tested on key words by their form tutors every Thursday during registration.  Congratulations to the following who came out top of their tutor group!

YL – Katie Orbell, AL – William Eason, TL – Rebecca Cox, LR – Chloe Overton, LE – Lucy Moore, HJ – Emma RowlesMG – Jemma Shingles, MP – Jonathan Shorten, NC – Reuben Noller, LH – Ellie Cushion.

On Tuesday they will be called up on stage for the spelling play off.  They will be given a board and I will call out ten spellings from their original set which they learnt. The person with the most correct will remain on the stage - if there is a tie (undoubtedly there will be!), we will then do a further 5 spellings until there is only one left standing!  The additional spellings will be chosen at random and not from their original list.

There will be prizes and certificates for all the competitors.  Well done so far and may the best speller win!

Year 7 Parents Evening 21st May

Thursday, 17 May 2012 15:11

Don't forget that this coming Monday (21st May), we have the parents evening when you can come and talk to your son/daughter's subject teacher. The pupils have all had booklets to fill out for appointment times with the teachers. I would strongly recommend that your son/daughter comes with you to the meetings as I always think this is more beneficial when discussing specific issues with the relevant teacher. I look forward to seeing you on the night.

After an extremely successful term of Double Club, a booster programme run by Norwich City Football Club to support the development of students’ literacy and numeracy skills through sport, Year 7 students had a celebratory visit to Carrow Road on Tuesday 21 March.  Tutor Jenni Dixon, praised the students achievements and said the group had worked really well together throughout the 12 weeks. They had also come up with some very imaginative design presentations in their NCFC product research project.  The visit will be followed by an award evening at the Carrow Road in April.

KS3 Curriculum Map

Monday, 27 February 2012 09:32

Over the last few months, a number of parents have said how useful it would be to have a simple list of the topics that their children will be studying in Year 7, 8 and 9.  This allows parents to support the work done in school and is particularly useful when students have long term medical needs and so cannot access school in the same way as other students.  We have collated this information and produced a coherent Key Stage 3 Curriculum Map.  We hope that you find this information useful.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information/guidance.

Year 7 Students Visit Carrow Road

Wednesday, 04 January 2012 00:00

Year 7 students were taken on a tour of the
stadium

On Wednesday 7 December, Year 7 boys from the ‘Double Club’ run by ‘Norwich City Football Cub eagerly awaited the arrival of the minibus to take them to Carrow Road for the day to celebrate the end of their 12 week course.  Double Club supports the development of students' literacy and numeracy skills through sport.

The morning started with a challenge were the boys were asked to invent, analyse and market a product that they thought could be sold in the club shop to help towards reducing the clubs £15,000,000 debt.  The catch was that the product had to be unique in that it was not already sold in the shop.  The boys were given instructions on how they would complete this task and also a short talk on the history of NCFC.  After a break the group were taken on a tour of the 27,000 seater stadium.  This started in the indoor area where disabled supporters and their carers could watch the games and Jenni (Double Club, tutor), went on to provide lots more information on the history of the club.

Going down pitchside the boys were able to sit on some of the dugout seats, which must’ve felt amazing as they were sitting on the same seats as some of their favourite players and role models.  We then went through the player’s pitch entrance door to the after match interview area.  From here we entered the ‘Home’ team changing rooms which had been decorated through the summer, had a look at the ‘cold water bath’, through the physio room down the corridor decorated in NCFC photos and wallpaper  and then on to the ‘Away’ teams changing room, which was dull and cold with no bath, bare white washed walls, a beaten up old physio table and 'rubbish' showers!  This, Jenni informed us was all a ploy to de-motivate the opposition before a game and I would imagine it would work.  I’m sure Wayne Rooney or David Beckham would be totally miffed about having to slum it like this.

After lunch the boys all worked really hard on their challenge to come up with their products.  In groups of 3’s they created power point presentations and then did a big, 'sell', presentation on their ideas.  They all did really well, ideas included ‘interchangeable trainers’ to ‘NCFC  Cutlery’ and the result was a really close shave with the winning team beating second place by only 1 point.

The day was finished with a talk to inform the boys of their award ceremony in January.  It was an informative, interesting and very educational day with the boys representing the High School well.
