Year 11 Maths Results

Tuesday, 24 January 2012 11:52

We have lots to celebrate this week with the arrival of some GCSE Maths results. Well done to the higher paper Maths students who as you can see achieved very well:

  • Leigh Amond  A*
  • Rachel Butterfield  A
  • Kieran Pratt   A*

Congratulations to the 22 Year 11’s who were graded a C on the foundation paper. Taking a GCSE paper 6 months early is a real achievement for those who got a C grade.

Ryan Camsey  Megan Nicklin  Dean Palmer
Elisha Brown  Lisa Anderson  Catherine Bennett
Tom Betts  Reece Bush  Bethany Earl
Matthew Cushion  Colby Douglas  Wesley High
Liam Firth  Joe Hartigan  Tom Livermore
Liam King  Amanda Lee  Kyle McLaughlin
 Nathan Mason  Hannah Muddell
 Georgia-Mae Shepperd  James Beattie-Prince

So close…

Some students only missed out on a C by a few marks. 14 students were less than 10 marks away from a C.  Those who missed out by a small margin – well done.  Learn from the experience and use the second opportunity to get the C.  You know what you have to do now!!

Time is running out!

Did you know that for Year 11 there is only approximately 85 days of school left! (until June half term!).  Most exams will have started by then.

85 days to…

  • Make a difference – every lesson counts.
  • Think about your future – where are you heading?
  • Spread the load – this year is stressful!
  • Earn grades that you deserve and that you can be proud of!

Year 11 Revision Evening - 23 February 2012

Monday, 23 January 2012 10:38

On Thursday 23 February 2012 we will be holding a Revision Evening aimed at both students and parents. The evening, which will be from 6.30 - 8.00pm, and will include a brief presentation in the Main Hall, followed by a series of workshops on issues such as:

  • The use of mind maps
  • Technology based revision
  • Dealing with stress
  • Active revision strategies
  • How to revise in English/Maths/Science

In our experience, the biggest stumbling block to revision is not knowing HOW to revise. Hopefully this evening will empower students and parents. We have deliberately placed it before the Easter holidays so that students can use the holiday to put in place some of the ideas they have learnt.

For further information download a copy of the letter for parents, guardians & carers (pdf, 37Kb)

We strongly recommend you attend this evening if possible.

12 Days of Christmas Revision Plan

Monday, 12 December 2011 10:56

The Christmas holiday is a time to recharge the batteries and spend time with your friends and families.  However, it is also VITAL for success in Year 11 (and I am not over exaggerating!).  We break up from school on Friday 16 December 2011 and return on Wednesday 4 January 2012.  This is a staggering 18 days off school!

When we return to school in January you will have your modular exams (REAL GCSE’s) along side mocks in all your subjects.  Mocks may not count towards your final grade but they are VERY important.  They give us a real indication of what we are likely to get in the summer exams and if anything goes wrong in the summer can in extreme circumstances be submitted to the exam board.

Revision over the Christmas break is VERY IMPORTANT.

I would like you as a MINIMUM to complete this ’12 Days of Christmas’ revision plan, available to download below, over the break to help you prepare.  To be successful in January you should be completing more than just this revision plan.

Sprowston student plays tribute on Remembrance Day

Tuesday, 15 November 2011 11:48

James Ivett, 11KY, preparing to play
The Rouse on 11 November

James Ivett who is in 11KY very kindly responded to a request from the Headteacher for volunteers to play the trumpet or bugle for our 2 minutes silence at 11.00 on 11 November.  James was stationed in the Atrium of the William Shakespeare block, and played The Rouse when we remembered in silence all those who have given their lives in conflicts around the world.  James did a lovely job - he was very professional and performed exceptionally well, and it was a fitting and moving way for us to remember.

Thank you James!

Year 11 Parents' Evening Monday 7 November 2011

Sunday, 30 October 2011 13:10

Year 11 students are settling into their final and most important year and are now looking ahead to their GCSE exams. Year 11 Parents Evening will be held in school on Monday 7 November 2011. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers for the last time before he/she sits her final GCSE exams. It is vital that you and your child attend on this evening.

I would like to invite you to meet your son/daughter’s subject teachers for individual interviews where you can discuss progress, current performance, revision and any concerns you may have. This evening is a valuable opportunity for you to discuss preparation and revision plans as we move closer to the final exams. The interviews last 5 minutes and we have to observe these timings so that teachers can see all the students in their teaching groups.

Mr Davies, the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, and Miss Wood, Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Watts, Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Nicklin Assist Headteacher, and Mrs Smith Inclusion Team will also be available to talk to parents.  I shall also be available to talk to you.

If you wish to make a specific appointment.  Appointments slots are available between 4:00pm to 6:20pm however due to a technical problem we are no longer able to use the online version of the booking system to make appointments.  All existing appointments will stand but any future appointments need to be made between your son or daughter and the member of staff you wish to see using the booking sheet students will be provided with.  We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to seeing you on the evening. Please ensure that appointments are made by Friday 4 November 2011.

On the evening there will be an opportunity to purchase a book offering parents advice on supporting your child through exams, entitled ‘GCSE’s What can a Parent do? 101 tips to ensure success’. It is priced at £3.00.  In addition Year 11 will be selling tickets and advertising their Prom Fashion Show as well as selling raffle tickets. All proceeds from the Fashion Show and raffle go to pay for our Leaver’s Prom.

Many Thanks
Ms Rebecca Dawbarn
