Student Leadership and Student Voice
Monday, 29 April 2013 08:39
As we prepare to say goodbye to our Y11 students later this term, we begin to look for who could be our next team of Student Leaders and Prefects.
As a school we are passionate about encouraging students to take on roles of responsibility and leadership and to act as ambassadors for our school. We have for some time, appointed Prefects in KS4 and Senior Students in the Sixth Form. Last year we very successfully created Student Leader posts for Y7, 8 and 9 students, recognising how much these students have to offer our school.
During assemblies this week we will be talking to students about the importance of student leadership and asking them to complete application forms. Because we want them to develop work related learning skills, we will be sharing with them Job Descriptions and Job Specifications for the role and asking them to provide a written application, along with references. We will then short list applicants and offer interviews.
We would urge all students to have a go. Remember, it is important that leaders have many characteristics so even if a child is relatively shy it does not preclude them from taking on aspects of leadership!
At the same time we will be re-launching our very effective and successful Student Governing Body. Students are invited to take part in one of four committees who are key to representing student ideas and voice. These are:
(a) Teaching and Learning (Mrs Watts)
(b) Behaviour, Safety and Attendance (Ms Wood)
(c) Resources and Finance (Mrs Wright)
(d) Engagement, the Arts and Charities (Ms Humber/Ms Quigley)
In all 4 areas student voice has had a real impact on changing the school but we need new faces, particularly from Y7 and Y8.
These are exciting opportunities- please take them up and make this YOUR school!
Good Luck.

Who can help with Careers information and advice?
Monday, 17 December 2012 12:15
All teachers are involved in giving information and advice that is sometimes careers related. The support of the form tutor, Head of Year, SENCO and all subject teachers, to name but a few people, is a valuable part of the process of vocational choice and career decision making. However, there are a number of people in school who have a specialist role in supporting students with their careers research and decision making.
The Careers Team have produced a leaflet which contains a 'Meet the Team' section along with other sources of help and advice relating to careers. To download a copy please click here

On Thursday 29 November, twenty six students across years 7-10 enjoyed a morning out at Norwich City Football Club Study Centre where they got to take on the role of the Board of Norwich City and ‘run’ the club. When we arrived at Carrow Road we all made our way to the Jarrold Stand where the Study Centre is located. We were met by Ros who was to be our tutor for the morning. Ros took us through to the fantastic study rooms where the students were to be based. After an initial introduction and ice breaking activity, we went through to an enclosed viewing area of the pitch which is used by disabled fans during football matches...Read More

Introducing our new Pastoral Support Worker Claire Pullen
Last Updated (Monday, 01 October 2012 09:50)

Claire Pullen, Pastoral
Support Worker at SCHS
Hello, I am Claire Pullen, the new Pastoral Support Worker at Sprowston Community High School and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and what this new role will include.
For the past four years, I have worked as an Academic Mentor within The Kett Sixth Form partnership supporting students on many different levels through their Sixth Form courses. I have now joined Sprowston on a full time basis as Pastoral Support Worker and am looking forward to meeting the students who I will be working with over the next few weeks.
In my new role, I will be working with students in receipt of Free School Meals and Looked After Children across year’s seven to eleven. Whilst the needs of these students will of course vary greatly, in my role I will support students through both academic and social mentoring, identifying and working with students on barriers which may affect their learning. This includes areas where, as a school, we can financially support students, through provision of resources such as revision aids or uniform. I will work with students individually or in small groups, liaising where necessary with other departments in school, parents or external agencies.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further, please don’t hesitate to contact me by telephoning the school or emailing me,
