Year 9 - A Challenging & Emotional Year with Many Successes

Wednesday, 14 July 2010 12:09

I cannot quite believe that we are finally at the end of Year 9 already. It has been a challenging and emotional year for many different reasons. We have had many successes including the preference process, good end-of-year test results, an Ofsted inspection and the brilliant Alton Towers trip. I would like to thank Year 9 for their hard work in what has been a long and tiring year.

I am thoughtful of the fact we end this year with one person sadly missing. Charlie Smith was a well liked and popular member of the year group. Members of the year group and his close friends are currently working on a project to plant a garden of memorial for him in the court yard of the school.  His friends have decided to change the raised flower bed into Charlie’s garden. It will contain a benched seating area, a tree and many varieties of flowering and fragrant plants. His friends are busy finalising the design of the garden. I would like to sincerely thank those students who have given up their time to finalise the plan for the garden. It has been a difficult yet rewarding process that will leave the school with a lasting memory of Charlie.

In the final week of term we will be holding a special celebration assembly to finish the year and key stage off with a bang!  During this assembly we will celebrate the successes we have experienced this year and look back over the last 3 years.

I hope that you have a relaxing break over the summer as when we return we will start the seriously hard work of GCSEs!

Year 9 Fundraising Walk in Memory of Charlie Smith

Wednesday, 23 June 2010 14:03

I would like to congratulate 6 members of Year 9 for completing a 28 mile walk on Saturday 19th June. Toby Watts, Adam Davies, Matthew Bull, James Ivett, Harvey Porter and Mark Riches organised this walk in the memory of their late friend Charlie Smith.

The boys have organised everything for this walk from fundraising, planning a route, organising equipment to take and even map reading so that they didn’t get lost! I am pleased to say that they completed the long walk and in doing so have raised a very impressive £600.

This is such a massive achievement for the boys and I am proud to say their determination and excellent leadership has paid off.  I am very proud of these unsung heroes of our year group. Well done boys!

Year 9 Students in Leadership Day at UEA

Wednesday, 23 June 2010 14:37

The following students participated in a Leadership day at the UEA a few weeks ago due to their skill in particular sporting fields. As a result of their participation they have completed different certificated courses.

Our sporting heroes today are such big role models in all of our lives as we see them on television and in everyday life. These skills show me that these named students are all excellent role models within our school community too – well done and thank you! These leadership skills will also become handy in the coming years as we will be soon selecting students to become prefects or even head boy or head girl!

Tuesday, 08 June 2010 00:00

I wish to take the opportunity of thanking you for your help this year in reviewing the way we work with our students and with you at Key stage 3.

Your response through questionnaires and focus groups has been positive overall but you have indicated where we can do even better. These comments  have given rise to a number of action points which will help us in our planning for the next academic year.

A big well done to the Year 9 students who have played on our sports teams this year, especially to the Football teams in the year group who once again have been very successful.

A group of Year 9 boys have been taking part in a scheme being held after school on Thursdays at the Viking Study Centre at North Walsham Rugby ground. Year 9 End of Key Stage Tests

Tuesday, 25 May 2010 09:12

I would like to congratulate Year 9 for their excellent effort and behaviour in this week’s end of Key Stage 3 English test. This was the student’s first experience of a formal exam setting and was held in the Sports hall in the same manner as our GCSE and A Level exams are held. Many of the students will get their first taste of GCSE exams in Year 10, so it is important for us to have a practice run before the real thing.

Don’t forget that all Year 9 students will sit end of Key Stage 3 formal tests in Maths and Science later this term too. The purpose of these tests is to enable us to assess the progress made over the key stage but also look ahead to set groups and targets at GCSE. It is vital that Year 9 use lessons and homework time to complete good revision to cement in their minds their learning over the last 3 years.
