On the 10 January a group of Year 7 students attended a presentation ceremony at Carrow Road, this was in recognition for their academic achievements at the club.  They were graduating from the NCFC Double Club which aims to raise students’ achievement with extra tutoring in English, Maths and PE.   They also got to meet Norwich City Striker Simeon Jackson who was on hand to give out medals and certificates at the Carrow Road Study Centre.

The group of students are featured on the EDP website which can be viewed by clicking on this link.

Year 7 Students Visit Carrow Road

Wednesday, 04 January 2012 00:00

Year 7 students were taken on a tour of the
stadium

On Wednesday 7 December, Year 7 boys from the ‘Double Club’ run by ‘Norwich City Football Cub eagerly awaited the arrival of the minibus to take them to Carrow Road for the day to celebrate the end of their 12 week course.  Double Club supports the development of students' literacy and numeracy skills through sport.

The morning started with a challenge were the boys were asked to invent, analyse and market a product that they thought could be sold in the club shop to help towards reducing the clubs £15,000,000 debt.  The catch was that the product had to be unique in that it was not already sold in the shop.  The boys were given instructions on how they would complete this task and also a short talk on the history of NCFC.  After a break the group were taken on a tour of the 27,000 seater stadium.  This started in the indoor area where disabled supporters and their carers could watch the games and Jenni (Double Club, tutor), went on to provide lots more information on the history of the club.

Going down pitchside the boys were able to sit on some of the dugout seats, which must’ve felt amazing as they were sitting on the same seats as some of their favourite players and role models.  We then went through the player’s pitch entrance door to the after match interview area.  From here we entered the ‘Home’ team changing rooms which had been decorated through the summer, had a look at the ‘cold water bath’, through the physio room down the corridor decorated in NCFC photos and wallpaper  and then on to the ‘Away’ teams changing room, which was dull and cold with no bath, bare white washed walls, a beaten up old physio table and 'rubbish' showers!  This, Jenni informed us was all a ploy to de-motivate the opposition before a game and I would imagine it would work.  I’m sure Wayne Rooney or David Beckham would be totally miffed about having to slum it like this.

After lunch the boys all worked really hard on their challenge to come up with their products.  In groups of 3’s they created power point presentations and then did a big, 'sell', presentation on their ideas.  They all did really well, ideas included ‘interchangeable trainers’ to ‘NCFC  Cutlery’ and the result was a really close shave with the winning team beating second place by only 1 point.

The day was finished with a talk to inform the boys of their award ceremony in January.  It was an informative, interesting and very educational day with the boys representing the High School well.

Year 7 Art Displayed at the Cathedral

Monday, 17 October 2011 13:41

Year 7 students in the cathedral grounds
surrounded by the flock

On Wednesday 12 October the entire Year 7 year group took part in a joint day of Art and PD (Personal Development) with the theme of 'Leaders and Followers.' Students worked in their form groups to produce a wide range of artwork promoting the idea that while students are all part of the same year group, they are each individuals with different characteristics. Students worked with PD staff to produce giant posters and with Creative Arts staff to paint portraits onto 99 giant sheep to represent the 'flock' they are part of at Sprowston Community High. The project is linked with the Norwich Cathedral artist in residence Cannon Jim Whitlock. The sheep were displayed in the cathedral grounds over the Harvest festival weekend 15/16 October.

Thank you to all those that were involved.

Year 7 News Update

Friday, 30 September 2011 12:57

Year 7 continue to impress with their attitude to school. I was very pleased with the standard of their ‘All About Me’ booklet holiday homework.  It was very difficult for the tutors to choose a winner in their tutor group but it had to be done!  I then couldn’t choose an overall winner because I was so impressed with their work! Each winner got a certificate and a prize for their hard work which was presented in Assembly.

This week has be very hectic with the majority of the year group going off to Eaton Vale.  It was great fun with such activities as the climbing wall and canoeing!  Those pupils who did not go to Eaton Vale were put into collapsed classes for the day.

Within the tutor time, first thing in the morning between 8.55am – 9.15am, we have instigated a weekly routine for the pupils (refer to table below).   An important day is Monday as we start off with silent reading and we would like all pupils to be equipped with their reading book so we can get off to a good start in the morning.  Tutors will be checking Journals on a Friday but please feel free to put comments into the journal on a regular basis if you want to communicate with the tutor.  The pupils should be using their journal to make notes as to what work they need to do/finish.

YEAR 7 REGISTRATION TUTOR TIME 2011/2012

Thursday  Form Discussion/New Articles to be generated by pupils or tutor.
Friday Checking the Journal has been signed by Parents/Carers at home. Making sure homework etc is being recorded in the Journal.

Welcome to Year 7

Thursday, 08 September 2011 00:00

We would like to give a big welcome to all the Year 7’s and I look forward to working with you all and your parents over the next 5 exciting years. The first day got off to a great start with everyone arriving early and sitting quietly and patiently in the assembly. We talked about expectations and what I wanted the year group to achieve at Sprowston.

Everyone in the year group will have a particular talent and I want everyone to try and achieve their potential – there will always be knock backs along the road (5 years is a long time!) but it’s how we get up and keep going to achieve what we want to.

In assembly we talked about Mo Farrah and how he had come back from defeat in the 10,000 metres to win the world title in the 5,000 metres.

The Eaton Vale trip is coming up soon and students have been given letters to take home to parents (which is also available to download using the link in the Eaton Vale article below), with the details about what will be happening.  I’m really looking forward to it and know it will be a great experience for everyone to get to know their tutor group really well.

Next week in assembly we will be presenting prizes to the top ‘All about me’ booklet (holiday homework) from each tutor group.

Mr Allerhand (AL’s tutor) and myself have somehow managed to get into the final of the o2 learn national teachers video competition which has been designed for teachers to produce learning resources for students around the country.  The 1st prize for the winning school is £100,000! The school would look to create a multi media complex with the money. Voting starts on Wednesday 14 September – we would love if you could support us by registering and voting for our video song. You can go through our facebook page for links, just search on face book, ‘The reincarnation song’ or go to O2 Learn and register and vote. Thanks
