Team Mean Machine at the F1 in Schools National Finals
Wednesday, 28 March 2012 07:32

On the 16 an 17 March four Year 11 Engineering students travelled to Birmingham NEC to take part in the F1 in schools National Finals.
The students; Harley Mundford (Team manager), Elliot Roxby (Marketing and Sponsorship), Harvey Allen (Design) and Daniel Osborne (Manufacturing) performed extremely well over the two days of fierce competition. The students had to undergo a variety of scrutinising exercises and perform a 10 minute presentation to a panel of F1 judges, as well as 'market' their F1 team over the two days to prospective businesses visiting the show. Additionally the team had to take part in racing their car along a 20 metre track finishing 9th in the speed trials and 3rd in the Reaction racing.
Overall, Team Mean Machine finished 8th out of the 20 teams who had travelled from all over the UK. This was a truly fantastic achievement for the team, especially when you consider they only formed as an F1 in schools team in October 2011, whereas some of the teams competing over the weekend had been formed for over three years.
The competition was part of the Big Bang Fair, held annually at Birmingham NEC to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) within schools and received over 45,000 visitors.

For more information about the challenge see www.F1inschools.co.uk or for specific Teammeanmachine information visit www.teammeanmachine.org.uk, The team had attracted a number of local sponsors and the boys were extremely grateful for their support both moral and financial, again see their website for more details.

NVQ in Beauty Therapy at Sprowston High
Monday, 19 March 2012 09:03

The NVQ in Beauty Therapy is aimed at individuals working in, or seeking to work in, the ever-growing beauty industry. Year 11 students Emma Body and Rebecca Howes are currently working towards this qualification, and have recently spoke about their experiences on the course:
'We have just passed our Level One and are now moving onto Level Two. In Level One we learnt about health and safety, facials and manicures and in Level Two we will be learning about eyelash tints, waxing, make-up and pedicures. As we are the only students in Norwich doing this course we had to go to the company's training centre in Bishop's Stortford to pass Level One. We had our portfolios assessed and had to do practicals in facial and manicure treatments, which we are happy to say we passed.'
We wish Emma and Rebecca good luck on the next stage of their course.

Year 11 Maths Results
Tuesday, 24 January 2012 11:52
We have lots to celebrate this week with the arrival of some GCSE Maths results. Well done to the higher paper Maths students who as you can see achieved very well:
- Leigh Amond A*
- Rachel Butterfield A
- Kieran Pratt A*
Congratulations to the 22 Year 11’s who were graded a C on the foundation paper. Taking a GCSE paper 6 months early is a real achievement for those who got a C grade.
| Ryan Camsey | Megan Nicklin | Dean Palmer |
| Elisha Brown | Lisa Anderson | Catherine Bennett |
| Tom Betts | Reece Bush | Bethany Earl |
| Matthew Cushion | Colby Douglas | Wesley High |
| Liam Firth | Joe Hartigan | Tom Livermore |
| Liam King | Amanda Lee | Kyle McLaughlin |
| Nathan Mason | Hannah Muddell | |
| Georgia-Mae Shepperd | James Beattie-Prince |
So close…
Some students only missed out on a C by a few marks. 14 students were less than 10 marks away from a C. Those who missed out by a small margin – well done. Learn from the experience and use the second opportunity to get the C. You know what you have to do now!!
Time is running out!
Did you know that for Year 11 there is only approximately 85 days of school left! (until June half term!). Most exams will have started by then.
85 days to…
- Make a difference – every lesson counts.
- Think about your future – where are you heading?
- Spread the load – this year is stressful!
- Earn grades that you deserve and that you can be proud of!
