Move On Up
Monday, 22 April 2013 16:44
Just before the Easter break I was able to take a small group of Year 10 students to the UEA to take part in the 'Move on Up' event hosted by the UEA outreach team. The day aims to inspire students towards a future in Higher Education by giving them the opportunity to experience University style classes. Below are the thoughts from some of the students who attended:
"It was an enjoyable day and the workshops were fun"
"It has really changed my views on University life and I feel that it is more achievable than I first thought."
"Today I have realised that I would like to go to the UEA"
"I really enjoyed the experience"
"I've learnt so much and had fun"
"Now I definitely want to go to Uni"
The UEA is an open Campus that offers free access to all, with the Sainsbury’s Centre for visual Arts and the riverside walks it makes a great venue for a visit. Why not take a family day out there.

Let's Talk about Sex
Tuesday, 26 March 2013 08:46
A massive thank you to Linda Street and Jay Morris for joining us for the Year 10 Sexual Health Awareness Day. As Sexual Health advisors, both Linda and Jay supported the day by answering the big questions asked by the students and by leading a session on the 'real biology of sex'. I am extremely grateful to them for their support and the guidance that they have offered our students.
Any student wishing to discuss any of the issues raised on CC Day, can contact MAP. MAP provides advisers, counsellors and youth workers who are available to discus a range of personal health and well-being issues. Contact can be made online at www.map.uk.net, by phone on 01603 766994, or in person at MAP, The Risebrow Centre, Chantry Road, Norwich Norfolk, NR2 1 RF.

Being the the best that we can.

I feel it is important that periodically I give you an overview of how the year group is achieving; I must however admit to being rather excited about the current predictions for our year group and for your children!
Excuse the use of facts and figures, but it shows the picture so clearly. Over 66% of the year is presently showing trends towards exceeding their target level, and a further 13% are likely to achieve their targets. The current average level of performance (which you will know as RPF or Relative Performance Factor) is 0.17 an exceptional 4.17 above the predicted level. This is extremely positive and shows just how hard the students are working. The boys in particular are progressing well and are taking great strides towards narrowing the gap on the high achieving girls.
On top of this the number of behaviour points remains low and attendance has consistently remained positive (our target is 96%).
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your families for the support that you have offered to make this level of achievement possible. If this pattern continues, there will be great course for celebration come next August.
Year 10's Stepping stone to excellence
Friday, 15 February 2013 10:29

On Thursday 24th January, Year 10 G&T students Rosie Branford, Molly Ward, Laura Clabon and Francesca Tray, travelled to Villiers Park Educational Trust to attend the “Stepping Stone to Excellence” course.
We were given a brief of what was expected and the details of our task. We were to work with the other attending schools (Archbishop Sandcroft, Jack Hunt School and Reepham High) to create our own university. We had to prepare a financial plan, the faculties, their chosen degrees, teaching and learning and marketing and communication. We were all appointed different roles and worked well not only in our school group but also alongside the fellow students...Read more

Year 10 Geography students get off to a good start...
Friday, 19 October 2012 11:29

Year 10 Geography students have made an impressive start to their GCSE course, which began with four very successful field trips to the beach at Cromer. Despite dreadful weather on some of the days they were all very cheerful and worked hard to collect the data they needed for their controlled assessment. They will be writing up their data over the next few weeks and we are very pleased with the way they have settled into this very important piece of exam work...View other images
The Spirit Lives On
Monday, 01 October 2012 15:48
Four weeks into the term and the summer holidays seem little more than a distance memory. However, what a summer it was! No one can argue that the 2012 Olympics provided a staggering spectacle and a display of real talent and a wealth of personal success stories. Keen to keep that flame alight, throughout this half term, the Year 10’s are being rewarded for their efforts in lessons with the ‘Sprit of the Olympics’ awards. Each week, staff are being asked to nominate the chosen few students who have shown outstanding effort and have made a great start to their examination subjects. The nominated students are then being formally congratulated by the year group and presented with their certificate in the Year 10 assemblies. The students recognised so far have been:
Tom Walpole
Jack Bishop
Jacob Wigget
Alex Hogarth
Lauren Jacobs
Jay Amos
Chloe Carmen
Lauren McCredie.
Well done to those students, there will be more names to follow soon!

Year 10 Food Technology students recently took part in the ‘Teen cuisine’ competition organised by Broadland District Council as part of the Norfolk Food Festival. All Y10 food students completed a piece of research over the summer break and were asked to look at seasonal foods, local foods and the work of local chefs. Three students were then selected as ‘best high school chefs ‘ to represent Sprowston Community High School in the first round of the competition.
On Thursday 20 September Christie Attah, Olivia Connor and Eleanor Thwaites visited Broadland District council’s new eco friendly training facility at Rackheath. Students watched a demonstration by Katrina Parsons, a local chef from ‘Kitchen Fairy Godmother’...Read More
