Inconsiderate Parking Driven Down - Sprowston and Spixworth

Four motorists have been fined for parking inconsiderately along Merlin Avenue, Sprowston as part of a neighbourhood priority.

Officers from the Sprowston and Spixworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) carried out positive action following concerns of local people at a priority setting meeting.

Extra high visibility patrols were stepped up along with issuing fines to drivers parking their vehicle, causing an obstruction, resulting in no further offences being reported to police in recent weeks.

As a result the issue was signed off as a neighbourhood priority at a meeting, held last week. Sgt Peter Scott said: “Residents who attended the priority meeting told us their concerns and we acted on them resulting in positive outcome.

“The priority meetings are for residents to report any neighbourhood issues, affecting their quality of life which we can deal with, refer the issue on to a partner agency or set as a neighbourhood priority”.

The Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel agreed to deal with the following issues over the next three months:

  • Anti-social behaviour in streets leading off Sprowston Recreation ground.
  • Inconsiderate parking outside schools.
  • Overweight heavy goods vehicles using Spixworth Road and Crostwick Lane as a short cut exceeding the 7.5 tonne limit.

In response to the previous priorities police and partner agencies carried out the following work:

  • Anti-social behaviour at Sprowston Recreation Ground - Police have carried out over 60 hours of patrol in the area and spoken to many youths about residents concerns. From 17 July – 17 January, 147 calls have been received to report rowdy nuisance behaviour.  It was agreed that more work needs to be done to deal with the issue subsequently the issue remains a priority.
  • Speeding along Wroxham Road - In addition to officers usual patrols, six hours of patrol have focused on speeding.  As a result 12 motorists have been stopped and given verbal warnings and nine tickets have been issued to speeding motorists.  Traffic wardens have also been on patrol and issued fines for offences.

The next priority meeting will be advertised on the Norfolk Constabulary website in due course, www.norfolk.police.uk.
