Excellent GCSE results

Tuesday, 24 August 2010 10:49

5 x A*-C with English and Maths: 58.2%
5 x A*-C: 68.8%

58% A*-C with English and Maths is the best result the school has ever seen. There has been a 5% rise over our 2009 results, and we have exceeded our target for this year. My ‘thanks’ go to our students, teachers, support colleagues for all their hard work; our parents, governors, Children’s Services for their continued support, and especially to Miss Sully for her outstanding leadership in her first year as Head of Year!

National Awards! Wonderful News!

Monday, 19 July 2010 07:25

I am delighted to report that we have been really successful as a school in gaining two nationally recognised Awards.

The Arts Council have given us the highest accolade with ArtsMark GOLD status, so a huge thanks to all our Arts colleagues.

The second, Quality in Study Support, where we gained Developed recognition with many advanced features, so a huge thanks goes to all colleagues as it recognises all the school and extra curricular activities that we provide.

Isn't it great to be recognised as a Good school!  My thanks go especially to Mrs Quigley and Ms Wood for their excellent leadership.

Reflecting on the year

Wednesday, 21 July 2010 07:29

Dear Students

The academic year is approaching its end and it is good to look back and reflect on how Sprowston Community High School has fared.

The year began with a fantastic set of record GCSE results (70% 5 A*- C!) and 15 'Good' grades (out of 23) in our Ofsted Inspection.  You are a credit to the school and your contribution to charities is now over £38,000.  Wonderful!

I have also sensed a true commitment by all colleagues (support and teaching) to ensure the school continues to offer the very highest standard of education for you.  Although the pace has been relentless (and I hope in all your lessons!) I really hope you have enjoyed the year and are looking forward to returning in September.

Before you leave on Friday, please take the opportunity to thank all the adults who support you and wish them a happy holiday.

Internet use

Friday, 16 July 2010 13:06

Did you know that only 25% of internet users are over 50, and 70% of the over 65s have never been online!  How often do you use the internet?

Trips and Enhancement Day

Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:54

Dear Students

Friday is fast approaching and I just wanted to wish all our students visiting Africa Alive, Pleasurewood Hills, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, etc, a great day out!  Why don't you club together to buy an adult a candyfloss or ice cream? School activities look really exciting with UFA, Science, English and Arts & Media sessions taking place.

It promises to be a really exciting day. "ENJOY!"

Sporting Awards

Tuesday, 13 July 2010 07:30

Rafael Nadal won the Men's Singles competition at Wimbledon for the second time in three years, Serena Williams won her fourth Wimbledon title, and Spain won the World Cup! Lewis Hamilton came second in the British Grand Prix and extends his lead to 145 points in the Formula 1 Drivers World Championship, and Jenson Button is second on 133!

What wonderful sporting achievements.  Congratulations too go to all our sporting achievers who gained recognition for their talents at the Sports Awards Evening. Well done everyone!

Welcome Back!

Monday, 12 July 2010 07:55

I just wanted to welcome back all our students and colleagues from the two overseas trips to France and Germany.  I really hope that you have had an excellent time making new friends and experiencing life in the two different countries.  I hope you've had the chance to 'thank' the adults who took you too!  If not, why not do it today?

The National Gallery ... London ... part 3

Friday, 09 July 2010 07:39

The National Gallery has around 2,300 pictures from the early Renaissance to the Impressionists (1250-1900).  It was a real joy to see the originals of

The Haywain by Constable
Bathers at Asnieres by Seurat, and
Sunflowers by Van Gogh

Check them out on the website www.nationalgallery.org.uk ... or chat with your Art teacher about them.
