As an Arts College we always encourage debate and discussion through the medium of film.  I recently have seen:

• 'The Iron Lady' (12A) about the former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher
• 'War Horse' (12A) based on Michael Morpurgo's besting selling children's book and acclaimed stage production of the same name; and
• 'The Artist' (PG) where the story goes back to the 1920s Hollywood as 'talkies' effectively signal the end of the silent era

These are the most common spelling errors identified by colleagues.  Why don’t you check them yourself?

Year 10 Challenge

Dear students and parents/carers

A huge 'thank you' for attending the Work Experience/Careers Evening - it was so good to see so many of you!

Your challenge, students, is to

1.  Produce a CV and letter or a number of letters to send to the companies you wish for on your Work Experience placement.

2.  Review your subject choices post GCSEs:

• Use the Careers Zone
• Use the Sixth Form Zone
• Use the UCAS (university website) for choices post 18!

Please talk with your tutor, class teachers and Head of Year at any time!  We are here to support you.

Garden Birdwatch - are you up for a challenge?

The annual RSPB garden birdwatch takes place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January.  It means spending an hour in the garden during the 2 days making a note of how many birds you spot.

Wow! What fantastic resources for Year 10 and 11 GCSE Graphics Students

I hope all our Year 10 and especially all our Year 11 students who study the Graphics GCSE have checked out the superb learning resources - powerpoints, quizzes and exam papers - in the Year 10/11 Revision Zone. You know it makes sense to do so!  What a great way to revise and deepen your understanding of the subject.

It was great to hear that 65 Year 11 students saw 'An Inspector Calls' at the Theatre Royal to help support their English GCSE studies.
