After a very successful National Family Week here at Sprowston Community High School, on Monday evening our Community Choir welcomed friends and family along to join them in their regular singing session. We had a wonderful community evening with sixteen community members coming along to join our regular choir members, all led in their singing by the Musical Director Marian Fox. Some of the people who had never tried the activity before commented on the “fantastic atmosphere”, and said that the night was “good fun, very entertaining and uplifting”.

Our Community Choir is open to everybody irrespective of age, ability and background. The Community Choir meet on Monday nights during term time, 7pm – 9pm in the drama studio at Sprowston Community High School. If you are interested in joining the choir, contact Olivia Dean on 01603 485266 to find out more, or pop along on any Monday and introduce yourself to Marian.

A 'Roaring' Success for the Year 8 Poetry Performance at Sparhawk Infants

Friday, 28 May 2010 00:00

Year 8 English Poetry Performance

Animal noises, a roaring bull-dozer and clear calls for conservation could be heard resounding through the hall at Sparhawk Infant & Nursery on Tuesday 24th May, when thirty Year 8 students presented their poetry.

The performance, which included multi-media presentations, physical theatre and a group chant, was based on an environmental message devised by students across three Year 8 English classes at Sprowston Community High School. The event was clearly a success, as demonstrated by the infants’ thoughtful responses, active participation and bright smiles, and of course by the Year 8s’ energetic performances and clever and creative poetry.

Congratulations to all involved for making the day such a positive celebration of poetry, co-operative learning, and our precious environment.

Sprowston High Student Feedback

  •  “It was an amazing experience to be able to work with children a lot younger than us.  I think that the children were very well behaved and interacted with us very well. One of the best parts of the day was being able to ask the children questions and hear their responses.” – Sophie M.
  • “I enjoyed making the little children happy and that made me happy as well.  Also, I felt they listened and joined in very well, which made it easier for us and we felt comfortable performing.” – Jack G.
  • “I enjoyed interacting with the audience.  It was good when we were doing the actions with the children.” – Josh N.
  • “I enjoyed the play because when I looked at the kids they had happy faces and when it got to the bit when the animals came out they were laughing, so you could see they enjoyed it.  And if they enjoyed it then I did too!” – Izzy M.

Sprowston's 5th Community Film Festival Hits the Big Screen

Wednesday, 05 May 2010 09:14

Sprowston's 5th Community Film Festival hit the big screen on Thursday night when students and film makers of all ages came together with their families and friends to watch the films they have been busily making over the past few months.

Organised by Sprowston Community High as part of their Arts in the Community programme, the festival screened contributions from Falcon Junior School, Hall School, Sprowston Junior School, White Woman Lane Junior School, Woodland View Junior School, Sprowston Heritage and students from the High School.

The film festival was first launched in 2005 to encourage all sections of the community to get involved, be inspired, and create a short film. Since then it has grown to become a popular, annual event which many students and the local community look forward to.
