Wider School Community

The school operates an 'Open Door' policy and the Headteacher and staff will be happy to discuss any matter of concern to parents. Parents are requested to make an appointment as teaching staff will not normally be available during the school day. A Newsletter is sent to parents fortnightly, and parents are invited to share their views about any matter raised. A parent 'surgery' is held every Tuesday after school.

First Contacts

An Open Evening is held in the autumn, to which parents and prospective pupils are invited to view the school as well as the work, displays and activities of current pupils. During the summer term, each child is given the opportunity to meet with the Headteacher and the Head of Year and ask questions, when visits are made to our feeder schools.

In May and June, the Headteacher and senior colleagues meet prospective parents and Year 7 pupils.

The School Journal

Our Journal is our primary means of communication with parents and carers. It is used to:

  • Record homework, credits, sanctions or concerns;
  • Rnable parents to communicate about absences;
  • Acknowledge school correspondence;
  • Allow brief communication between teachers and parents.

Tutors check the Journal on a weekly basis and we ask parents to do the same, signing the Journal to show you have read it and monitored your child's homework.

Reports

Parents receive regular reports on their child's progress. The reporting system is unique to Sprowston Community High School and highlights both areas of achievement and improvement using a traditional Long Report and a Short Report scoring system. With this structure, parents can monitor their child's progress through the whole of their school career. Parents also receive a full Annual Report, detailing their child's progress and targets to aid future progress. An Academic Review Day is held to allow a detailed discussion of the progress being made by every pupil. This is normally held in the Spring Term.

Parent / Teacher Association

Sprowston Community High School has a well established School Association which combines an active social and educational programme with fund-raising. New parents are encouraged to join in these activities and the organisation of events. The Secretary can be contacted through the school.

School Calendar

The school prepares an annual calendar of events for staff, pupils and parents. This is distributed in July and September to the whole school community.

Complaints

The Complaints Procedure and Policy document is held in the School Office. In the first instance, complaints should be addressed to the teacher concerned or the Headteacher at the school address.
