A busy week ahead

We have a very busy week ahead of us.  I wish for everyone to work hard in every lesson and achieve their best at all times.  Please make the best of every opportunity your classteachers and your form tutor offer you.  Engage in class discussions, self assess your work, go back through your exercise books/folders and ensure you know what you've already learned and what work you have to do over the half term holiday.

I look forward to seeing Year 12 students and their parents at the Parents' Evening on Wednesday.  Don't forget our non-uniform day for Haiti on Friday ... let us think and act for others who don't have a school to attend!

Year 8 Hats for Haiti

On Tuesday 9th February all Year 8 can wear a hat for the day if they pay £1 . This is in addition to the £1 for a non-school uniform day on Friday. There will be prizes in assembly that morning for the most creative hat and the silliest hat.

Election of Parent Governor

There is now a vacancy on our governing body for a parent governor and we are seeking nominations of parents interested in taking up this role. Being a governor can be very enjoyable and worthwhile.

A Concert for Life - Help Us to Help Ella-Grace

Many of you will have heard about the case of Ella Grace Honeyman, a local toddler who is struggling with a life threatening brain condition. Ella-Grace's family are raising money for a revolutionary operation in America carried out by the leading specialist in this field. As a school we feel privileged and proud to offer our support to the family.

Year 12 Parents Consultation Evening

Wednesday February 10th @ 4 pm - 6.30pm
Sprowston Community High School Main Hall

We are currently beginning the process of generating full written reports for Year 12 students, which they will see in the next two weeks and have the opportunity to reflect and comment on. They will be issued from Friday 5th February prior to the Parents Evening Consultation on the 10th. We very much hope you and your son/daughter will be able to attend on this evening. As staff will be travelling from the other sites for the evening the start time may vary for individual subjects, please encourage your son/daughter to make appointments with all their teachers in advance to avoid difficulties on the evening. We look forward to seeing you.

Head of Sixth Form - Sprowston Site

Sprowston Raises £1308.57 for Children in Need

Thank you to all students, parents and staff who helped to raise the £1308.57 that the school has donated to the BBC Children in Need Appeal.

Litter at Sprowston Community High School

As a school we are committed to ensuring that we offer our students the highest possible educational experience. This commitment also includes ensuring the physical environment is of the best quality. One area where we feel we could improve in this respect, is how we tackle the problem of litter.

As a large school we do experience a noticeable issue with dropped packaging and discarded waste, particularly after break and lunch time. We have decided to combat this with a new programme of sanctions and rewards from January 2010.

Mobile Phone Rules

We feel strongly that within a learning environment mobile phones are a considerable challenge. As a result of this last year the school instituted the following measures to maintain a peaceful and considered learning environment.

  • Mobiles phones are only allowed within the school site if a student has returned a permission slip acknowledging the risk of theft and loss;
  • Mobile phones must be switched off at all times whilst on the school site (including school fields etc);

Attendance Matters

We expect our students to maintain attendance at 94% or better throughout the year.

  • 95% attendance = 10 school days missed over the school year;
  • 90% attendance= 20 school days missed over the whole school year;
  • 85% attendance = 25 school days missed over the year.

80% attendance over 5 years = ONE WHOLE SCHOOL YEAR MISSED!

Attendance matters.

Assistant Headteacher

Bus Queues - Important

As some of you may be aware we now have a new contract for our main bus service. This is an improvement in many ways particularly as it means all students have a seat with a seatbelt and are not being forced to share seats. The quality of the coaches is also a massive improvement.

As with any change it is not without its issues. The coaches are not allowed to pick up from the front of the school so it is very important that students understand the new school guidance on bus queues.

School Uniform Requirements

I hope it has become obvious to you that our students should adopt a smart dress code that reflects the aspirations of the school and the local community. We wish the dress code to be a smart practical outfit that resists the vagaries of fashion and ensures a degree of consistency and equality for the students. We wish for our students to be proud of their school in their local community, especially to and from school. Please find below a link to the requirements that are compulsory for all students in Years 7 – 11.
